About Us

Founded, solely owned and operated by myself, Melinda C. Capers.

My passion for animals began early in my life and grew in immense proportions during my early teenage years while I worked as a bather/brusher for a dog groomer. I traveled to dog grooming shows and worked one-on-one with many different breeds of dogs – all while I read everything I could get my hands on.

During this time, I also branched out into horses by joining a 4-H group focused on horses. I took several years of horse riding lessons, while assisting at horse shows and events. Many years later, I went onto complete a semester of English horse riding lessons in college.

After graduating from Bowling Green State University in 1995 with a degree in Public Relations/Journalism, I moved to central Ohio and became a volunteer for the Capital Area Humane Society in Hilliard, OH. I also have helped out at the Franklin County Dog Shelter on occasion.

For many years, I was heavily involved with basset hound breed rescue, in addition to assisting with greyhound rescue.

Prior to establishing my own pet sitting service, I spent eleven years serving as the Communications Director for the state veterinary medical association in Columbus, OH.

For over ten years, my volunteer work has included serving as an Animal Rescue Volunteer and Assistant Volunteer Leader for the Cruelty Investigations Department of the Capital Area Humane Society.

SignIn my latest volunteer service role, I have become the Volunteer Leader for the Capital Area Humane Society’s Capital Canine Connection, a therapeutic visitation group whose dog/handler teams visit area nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, hospitals, adult day care facilities, and Nationwide Children’s Hospital. I have participated in pet therapy visitation in central Ohio since 1997 with visits to nursing homes, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, and to a variety of facilities associated with Odyssey Healthcare of Columbus

As a certified “turtle nerd”, I serve as a Board Member and Adoption Coordinator for Turtle Homes, Inc. a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to the safety and welfare of turtles and tortoises worldwide. Turtle Homes is run by volunteers operating from all regions of the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

From these locations and through an extensive network of contacts, Turtle Homes, Inc. works to help turtles and tortoises globally. I am a member of the World Chelonian Trust, an organization whose mission is to promote the conservation and assure the survival of all tortoises and freshwater turtles. I also maintain a non-commercial propagation permit with the Ohio Department of Natural Resource’s Division of Wildlife. From the depth and breadth of my experience, you will see my commitment to a high standard of compassion in care for all species. A special area of focus and expertise for me is that of special needs animals (including those who are hearing or sight impaired and/or physically challenged), seniors, and many angels with various medical issues (including too many with cancer) because of deep personal experience of several of my own angels. My work ethic is based on a firm foundation of mutual trust, honesty and respect. Experience with my own animal family has assisted me in growing a business based on what I have entrusted others to do for me in the care of my animal “kids” in your home.

I am insured and bonded, and a member of Pet Sitters International.
